Rates & Terms
These are the standard rates for expert witness and consulting work by Randy Beard (Xterior Art). The same terms are in the printable fee schedule (PDF). A written fee schedule is signed before any substantive work begins.
Hourly rates

Retainer
A retainer of $3,500 is required to begin an engagement. It is applied toward billed hours, not charged on top of them.
Billing
- Time is recorded in tenths of an hour and shown line by line on each invoice.
- Invoices are issued monthly and are due within 30 days.
- Payment is made to Randy Beard. The remittance address is provided on engagement.
How an engagement starts
- You email or call with the property city, the issue and your deadline, and the names of the parties so a conflict check can be run.
- Randy confirms there is no conflict and discusses the scope of the work.
- The fee schedule is signed and the retainer is paid.
- Work begins: document and photo review, a site inspection where needed, then a written report if one is wanted.
